What are cartons?
The cardboard boxes are used to pack personal effects, books, kitchen items, clothing, and other household contents for a removal. In the removals industry, “cartons” and “boxes” are used interchangeably. PSS uses export-grade, double-walled cardboard cartons for all international shipments. The maximum weight should be no more than 25kg.
Standard sizes include:
- Tea Carton / Large Carton: 46 x 46 x 51cm. Large box, ideal for bulky items like linens, pots and pans, and clothing.
- Economy / Suitcase Carton: 46 x 46 x 46cm. Sometimes used as an alternative standard box.
- Book Carton / Small Carton: 46 x 46 x 31cm. Designed for heavy items such as books, DVDs, tools, and kitchen items.
- Bike Carton: 148 x 22 x 96cm. Specialist carton for shipping bicycles.

PSS Tip: Standard supermarket or retail boxes are not adequate for international sea freight. If you are self-packing, purchase proper double-walled removal boxes — PSS can supply these.
