How Do I Qualify for Tax Relief for My Delivery?
A summary of tax relief qualifications is below. For more details visit Spain customs.
Spanish and EU citizens do not have to pay import tax or customs duties when bringing personal and household goods into Spain from within the EU, as free movement of goods applies between member states.
For non-EU citizens, it is also possible to import household belongings into Spain tax-free, provided certain conditions are met. These include having lived outside the EU for at least 12 consecutive months, having used the goods for at least six months prior to the move, and importing the items within 12 months of establishing residency in Spain. The goods must be for personal use and cannot be sold, loaned, or transferred within 12 months after import. Documentation such as a residence certificate and proof of prior ownership and use may be required by Spanish customs authorities.
Customs Guide for Sending Personal Effects to Spain
All goods that arrive in Spain are subject to customs clearance. We will submit all the relevant paperwork required to obtain the release of your goods, this can sometimes take up to 7 days. This may take longer in busier months but you don’t need to be present or in the country for clearance.
How Does Delivery to My Address in Spain Work?
Once your goods have been released by Spain customs we will contact you to arrange a suitable delivery day.
Once we’ve received clearance of your goods we will either deliver your sea freight container directly to your new home or it will be delivered in a separate vehicle. This all depends on the type of shipment you are sending. Our unloading crew will place your items in the rooms of your choice and unwrap and remove the packing material from any furniture.
Do I Need Shipment Protection Cover?
It is highly advisable to take out shipment protection cover before sending items to Spain. Although problems are unlikely, it is still wise to have cover when sending goods overseas, especially for items of significant financial value.
PSS International offers very flexible Shipment Protection Plans. You can cover your whole shipment or choose the individual items you wish to cover. Your PSS Move Manager can explain the different options available and guide you through completing the Shipment Protection Valuation form.
