What is the Hong Kong Address Format When Sending From the UK?
Hong Kong postal address formats take a similar format to UK addresses. When addressing a parcel for sending to Hong Kong from the UK, you should include the following in addition to the recipient’s name:
- The street address including the apartment number, floor and building name
- The name of the village, town or district
- ‘Hong Kong’ or ‘HKG’ in caps under the address

What Can and Can’t You Send to Hong Kong
Import approval is required for importing some items of food, plants, vehicles and Alcohol (no tax free allowance) into HK.
To transport alcohol you will be requested to supply a list of all alcohol, listing the quantity, size and type of alcohol. Goods entering Hong Kong are subject to a full physical examination. The Ministry of Agriculture may also wish to inspect some items.
Firearms will require a valid certificate and a copy of the de-registration certificate from the country of origin.
Restricted goods:
- Alcohol / Wine: Subject to payment of duties.
- Non-perishable food items, packed in cans or other durable packaging, may be imported in small amounts for personal use.
An import Licence is required for:
- Plants, Vegetable products
- Dogs, cats, birds
- Certain feathers furs, skins, tusks, etc. of animals coming under the Protected Species Regulations

Customs Guide for Sending Personal Effects to Hong Kong
When your shipment arrives in Hong Kong we will handle the customs clearance procedure on your behalf, please keep in mind that goods arriving into Hong Kong are subject to an examination fee upon arrival.
We generally start this process as quickly and as early as we can, rest assured that we will keep you updated every step of the way to ensure that prior to your arrival we have all the relevant documentation and contact details required
If you are transporting alcohol, it is important that you declare these in advance to avoid delays. A list will need to be submitted listing every bottle of alcohol as well as the size, type and strength
Firearms will be ceased for inspection and provided you have the valid certificate and the origin de-registration certificate or confirmation your firearm will be returned to you.

How Does Delivery to My Address in Hong Kong Work?
Once your goods have been released by Hong Kong customs we’ll contact you to arrange a suitable delivery day.
Once we’ve received clearance of your goods we’ll either deliver your sea freight container directly to your new home or it will be delivered in a separate vehicle. This all depends on the type of shipment you are sending. Our unloading crew will place your items in the rooms of your choice and unwrap and remove the packing material from any furniture.
Do I Need Shipment Protection Cover?
We highly advise you to take out shipment protection cover before sending items to Hong Kong. Although you’re not likely to experience any problems, it’s still wise to have cover when sending goods overseas, especially for items of any significant financial value.
