What is a Claim?
A claim is a formal request made for compensation in respect of loss or damage to goods during a removal. Key steps:
- Report any visible damage or loss immediately at the time of delivery
- Document the damage — photograph all damaged items before moving or using them
- Do not dispose of damaged items — the insurer may need to inspect them
- Note damage on the delivery note before signing
- Submit a written claim within the required time limit — typically 30 days from delivery
- Provide proof of value — receipts, valuations, or photographs
