What is a freight rate?
A freight rate is the charge applied by a shipping line, airline, or road haulier to transport a consignment of goods. For sea freight, freight rates are typically quoted per CBF/CBM for groupage/LCL shipments, or as a total container rate for FCL shipments. Freight rates fluctuate based on fuel costs, port congestion, vessel availability, currency fluctuations and seasonal demand.
