What is fumigation?
Fumigation is a biosecurity treatment in which goods are exposed to a gas or chemical agent to kill insects, larvae, eggs, or microorganisms. Required by some destination countries (particularly Australia and New Zealand) for wooden items, organic material, or goods found to have a biosecurity risk on inspection.
PSS Tip: Fumigation is almost always avoidable if goods are properly cleaned before packing. Clean all wooden furniture, outdoor equipment, and anything that may have been in contact with soil before moving day.
