Groupage

What is a groupage?

A groupage is an economic shipping arrangement in which multiple customers’ goods are combined into a single container, with each customer paying only for the space their goods occupy. The most cost-effective option for smaller international moves under 900 cubic feet. Transit times for groupage are typically two to four weeks longer than for full container loads due to the consolidation and de-consolidation process.

Also known as: LCL (Less than Container Load), shared container, part load

PSS Tip: Groupage typically offers significant savings as you only pay for the space you use. However, if your volume is close to 900 cubic feet, ask your move manager to compare groupage and FCL costs — sometimes a full 20ft container is only marginally more expensive and offers faster transit and more flexibility.
