What is lift-on-lift-off?
Lift-on-lift-off (Lo-Lo) is a method of loading and unloading shipping containers onto and off vessels using cranes — the container is physically lifted from the quayside and lowered onto the ship (lift-on) and lifted off at the destination port (lift-off). Lo-Lo is the standard method used at most major container ports and is how PSS containers are handled at UK ports (Felixstowe, Southampton).
It can also be used for shipping cars, but it is not recommended.
