What is maximum weight?
The maximum permitted weight for a packed carton or bag is set for health and safety reasons. PSS applies the following maximum weight guidelines:
- Standard carton/moving box: maximum 25 kg
- Book box (smaller carton): maximum 25 kg — books are extremely heavy; use small boxes and fill them only half to two-thirds full
- Individual bags and suitcases: maximum 25 kg per bag for manual handling

PSS Tip: Pack books only in small book boxes, not standard or large cartons. A full large carton of books can exceed 40 kg, which is dangerous to lift and likely to cause the box to fail. Half-fill book boxes and top up with lighter items such as clothing or towels.
