What are transit times?
Transit times are the estimated length of time between goods departing from the UK port and arriving at the destination port — the sea voyage portion only. Total door-to-door times are typically two to four weeks longer than port-to-port transit times. Approximate port-to-port transit times for full container loads from UK ports:
- Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane): 6–8 weeks
- Australia (Fremantle / Perth): 5–7 weeks
- New Zealand: 6–8 weeks
- USA (East Coast): 3–4 weeks; USA (West Coast): 4–6 weeks
- Canada (East Coast): 6–9 weeks; Canada (West Coast): 10–14 weeks
- South Africa: 3–6 weeks
- Singapore / Malaysia: 6-8 weeks
- UAE / Dubai: 5–7 weeks
- European destinations (road): 3–10 days
NB: Transit times are only estimates. PSS cannot guarantee a transit time or arrival time due to many global factors beyond our control.
Also known as: Sea freight transit, voyage time, shipping time
PSS Tip: Always plan your move around realistic total door-to-door times, not just the vessel transit time. If you need your goods by a specific date, work back from that date to determine when you need to collect and ship.
