Job Description
Our client, a leading construction company in Australia requires 50 Ceiling Fixer Carpenters for an ongoing residential and commercial project.
You can be an International Candidate under the age of 30, as well as an Australian Citizen in order to qualify for a Working Holiday Visa, as this is an immediate start requirement. However our client is prepared to sponsor a 457 visa for other International candidates as well.

As a ceiling fixer you would frame and install suspended ceilings and frame, fix and set up partitions and bulkheads in buildings. These ceilings are designed to hide pipework or wiring. They also hide heating and air-conditioning systems. Most of the work is in new developments, such as offices, shops and multi-level accommodation. Included also is work in new hospitals, schools, indoor arenas and other projects.

To be a ceiling fixer, you will need the ability to follow technical plans. You'll need to be able to work accurately and neatly. You'll also need to be able to work in a team or on your own.

Work activities
Tasks would include:

- Setting out, cutting and fixing the aluminium/steel framework to support the new ceiling and/or partitions and/or bulkheads
- Checking that the framework is horizontal, using spirit, laser or water levels
- Fitting plasterboard and other specified sheeting to framework and/or ceiling
- Cutting and shaping panels to fir around lights and other fixtures.


You would use various hand and power tools and work from access platforms, ladders or scaffolding


Working hours and conditions:
You would usually work a minimum 38 hours a week (including Saturdays) but overtime (Sundays and nightworks) may be required.
You would be generally based indoors, often working at heights and sometimes in cramped and confined spaces. You would be expected to wear personal protective equipment. These could include a hard hat, high visibility clothing, safety glasses, gloves and safety footwear


Training and Development
You are required to have a White card before you can work on site. The card is proof of your skills and ability to carry out the job safely.
Trade level in the required skills is a minimum, either from completing an apprenticeship or many years experience with on the job learning


Skills, interests and qualities:
To be a ceiling fixer, you will need to have:

- The ability to follow technical plans and instructions (preferred not essential)
- Good practical skills
- Ability to work accurately and neatly
- Maths skills for measuring areas and calculating amounts
- Good fitness levels
- The ability to work in a team or on your own
- Good time management skills
- Our client is also a fully registered 457 Visa Sponsorer for International Workers, but priority will be given to Australian Citizens or those individuals already holding Permanent Residency.

Applicants requiring a 457 Sponsorship must be Fluent English speakers, and if from a country requiring an IELTS Test, then have a 5.5 Grading Standard
